Camping at Backwaters of Vaitarna Dam
Overnight Camping at Backwater of Vaitarna Dam in Summer's
As the temperature in thermometer keeps on rising, and the sun God keeps on smiling on us, like always during Summer, could plan small treks but this year it is not the same situation, the travel kida in me doesn't let me be home so thought of going for some camping, if not for trekking.
So the plan started with a friend who asked me for if I would be interested in camping as he already had planned for a long weekend and I grabbed the opportunity,it was a reunion( meeting friends with whom I had travelled before to Vasota Nageshwar Trek)
The journey started on 27th Saturday at 4 pm from Kalher(Bhivandi) with UTV car owned by our friend.
The destination decided was an offbeat place, before I Iravel I do have a habit of researching about the place so had an idea about the nearby places.
Because of the long weekend, there was Traffic Jams and we got delayed took a tea break at kasara and headed towards our planned camping site which was Mukne Dam.
It was 7 pm we entered the base village of Kavani fort which has the same route to Mukne dam, we enquired about our destination and we got to know Mukne dam had very less water so decided further to go to Vaitarna dam which was nearest camping site from that village, we were carrying our camping gears the only concern was dinner, initially we thought we would have our dinner near vaitarna dam but then it was late and so decided to have our dinner to the nearby hotel in the village, a wise decision made by all of us.
It was already 9.30pm and we were yet to reach our camping ground, it was a dark night , some villagers advised if we are looking to set up campsite then we have to travel a little further or there was a place about 1km ahead and that we can stay there, we decided to go to the nearest one.
After driving for a km to the right of the road was a huge plateau, a little ahead we could see the backwaters and were overjoyed, but the place had small rocks everywhere and the land was wet as well, some of us unboarded our cab to reki the place as we had to make sure this was the right site to pitch our tents and camp for the night, in between while they were still looking our car tyre got stuck in the mud. This was when we all realised we should have reached before sundown. But then to our luck after some initial struggle, we managed to free our car tyre and we also found space on the plateau to setup our camp.
Looking at our watch which clocked 11 pm, we pitched our tent, relaxed for some time, played cards, discussed on varioustopics with light music and cool breeze from the dam backwaters, we enjoyed the starlit sky and the ququietness of the night.

It was 2.30am and we decided to sleep for some time till 5.30am. Some of us slept and the rest were awake but all were in tents for safety reasons. I believe in following rules when we are away from our city.
Woke up at 5:30 am, I was sleepy could sleep only for 1hour but thought I would like to spend some time with Nature instead of sleeping.
As the sun rose, the visibility cleared and that was one of the best mornings of my life, I was at a place I had never been before, with only 7 of us and no one around us, It was sublime and we were all at peace with the call of so many different species of birds which sounded like music to our souls overlooking the backwaters of Vaitarna dam.
Clicked an ew snaps jumping and doing crazy things, some of us went swimming, we could also see some local villagers fishing.
Rohu Fish 3.3kgs
We started our return journey back around 9 am enroute Pandav Leni.
Had Bhel which was very spicy( nusta masala) and sugarcane juice and started to explore Pandav Leni, it takes 2hours to explore this place.
Some information: Pandav Leni is also known as Buddhist Caves, located about 8 kilometres to the south of the centre of Nashik in Maharashtra in India, the Pandavleni Caves are ancient rock-cut caves that are situated on the tableland of the Trivashmi Hills. These caves have existed for more than 2000 years now and date back to the period between the 3rd century BC and 2nd century AD. Interestingly, these caves hold their importance and value ttodate. The Pandavleni caves are a group of 24 caves that represent the Hina Buddhism.

On our way back home had our lunch at our regular hotel citizen, khadi( lip-smacking and budget-friendly hotel) It was humid as ever but thankfully we were all travelling in our car, we were back to Bhivandi by 3:30 pm.
This is a good option for people planning to get away from daily routine which is close to Mumbai, one can take your family and friends too but make sure you don't litter around or booze for your own safety.
Cheers to a Good life!!
