Alibaug (Sea forts)

Visit to Picturesque Sea Forts

As it is said, "If you do anything you want on the very first day of a new year you tend to do it all throughout the year and so are resolutions made."
What could be a traveller's resolution?? To intend to travel more each year, isn't that obvious?
A plan was worked out to visit Alibaug, exploring sea forts.

Type: Sea Forts

Grade: Easy

My experience:

We planned for a day trip, had less time and more to explore so decided to take our bikes that was the only convenient way to travel via ferry from Bhaucha Dhaka to Revas Jetty, we were 4 of us with 2 bikes, loaded our bikes at 8.30am and reached Revas jetty at around 10 am. Had our breakfast omlet pav and cutting chai and started with our journey.

Usually, Alibaug is very famous for twin sea forts Murud and Jajira but we thought not to opt to visit those and decided to visit the other twin forts Sarjekot and Kolaba fort.
The uniqueness about these forts is they come under the category of mixed forts as they turn into land forts during of low tide and sea forts when it is high tide. We had already checked the high/low tide timings before our visit and around 12 noon we reached these twin forts.
Sarjekot is an adjacent fort to Kolaba fort, there is no fortification or a temple on this fort, you can witness this fort through the pictures below.

                           First glimse of Sarjekot

                                This is how it looks!

Kolaba Fort also known as Alibaug Fort is an old military fortification in India. It is situated in the sea at a distance of 1–2 km from the shores of Alibaug, It is a popular tourist destination and a protected monument. 25/- charges to enter the fort.
It is a three-hundred-year-old fort which was once chief naval stations during the reign of Shivaji Maharaj in Maharashtra.
The fort has also some of its carvings of animals and birds present on the wall, like tigers, peacocks, and elephants can be seen on the entrance. There are temples of Padmavathi and a Mahishasura . Besides, there is dargah of Haji Kamaluddin Shah on the fort. This fort also has beautiful Siddhivinayak temple facing north.

2 km away from this fort is a Hirakot fort which is an active Jail so we were not allowed to take pictures of the same but there was a walking track and a garden beside that fort you can have a glimpse of it through the pictures.

It was almost 3 pm and we were dam hungry, if you are a non-vegetarian you would never eat veg on an Alibaug trip and so I ordered a Pomphert Thali which was amazing!!

We were 1 km away from Revdanda fort and we had half hour with us so decided to visit Revdanda fort as well.
Revdanda fort is located at the entrance of Kundalika River where it meets the Arabian Sea. Revdanda fort is well-known as Revatikshetra from the time of Mahabharata. In the 15th century, Portuguese distinguished the vital criticalness of the Revdanda town and sustained the whole town.
The periphery of the fort is around 5 km. As forts divider encompasses the whole town, a large portion of the zone is private and consequently unavailable. It takes around 15 to 20 minutes from Revdanda village.

It was 4.30 pm and we had our last ferry from Revas at 5.45 pm so had to rush this time with no halts in between and we were exact at 5.45 at the jetty, by the time we reached they stopped giving tickets as there was a lot of crowd as everyone was returning to Mumbai from Alibaug after their new year's celebration. We just prayed hard that we get into the ferry but that wasn't that difficult because there  were 3 ferry instead of 1 and we got into the last one, loading in passengers and bikes took a while almost an hour but I am a fun loving person who acts according to the situations, so instead of getting bored I was enjoying 'ME' time by doing what I love too( clicking sunset snaps and mesmerising how I spent my first day of 2019).

Revas Jetty

We boarded at 7 pm from Revas and was back at Bhaucha Dhaka at 8.30 pm.
